Step Out of Body I
We have previously presented a series on the topic of Astral Projection, but this new series entitled Step Out of Body takes a look at the subject from a slightly different angle that some readers might find easier to work with. Enjoy!
“Your consciousness does not live in your body.
You merely believe it does, and so it complies with your belief.”
Where is your consciousness – the thinker of your thoughts, the experiencer of your experiences, the maker of your decisions?
This is a question which few people ever even think to ask themselves. Those who ask it lightly often respond that their consciousness sits a few inches behind their eyes because this appears to be where all their thinking and perceiving is done. But thinking and perception are not activities of the consciousness, they are activities of the human brain.
Consciousness only resides ‘in’ the physical body because you believe it does. It only seems to sit in your head because that is where the biological computer [brain] processes the information it gathers.
Your consciousness is beyond space and also beyond time. It is eternal in nature, infinite in its boundaries and flexible in the way it can be used.
So far it is highly probable that you have spent most of your life with the idea that your consciousness is limited to your physical body. But in this series you will learn that your consciousness can be placed anywhere just by willing it so.
Think of your last vacation. Remember where you went. Where did you stay? Who were you with? What did you do? What was the weather like? What did your environment look like? How did you feel when on vacation? Imagine your last vacation in as much detail as possible.
Now come back and realise that you just sent your consciousness to another place. You sent it back through time to your last vacation, and as you did so your perception of your current surroundings took a back seat.
Of course, your consciousness drew information from your memories to re-locate itself, but the fact of the matter is that temporarily it left your current space-time environment and journeyed somewhere else.
Let’s now try another exercise.
With your eyes either closed or open, try to perceive what is behind you. Imagine that you can turn your consciousness around inside your body and take a look out through the back of your head. What do you see? How does this new perspective feel?
The first couple of times you try this you may perceive little. As you practice it, however, you will find that it becomes easier and easier to perceive what is behind you without actually having to look through your physical eyes. Part of the perception will be drawn from your memory of what is behind you, but gradually a part of the perception will be genuine. As your practice continues, so the genuine part of the perception will increase, with less and less of it being drawn from remembered perceptions.
People who have been trained in something called Remote Viewing are able to project their consciousness at will to any place they desire. This allows them to accurately perceive things which would be impossible to perceive physically. In fact perceptions gained through remote viewing can be so accurate that many governments [including the US] have used teams of specially trained remote viewers [or “RV’s”] to assist them in matters of national interest.
Now some people may wonder what practical use the ability to project consciousness has in daily life. Well, there are many more than you might imagine. Here are just a few of them:
Projecting your consciousness allows you to detach yourself from any situation or environment and view it from a more objective point of view. This enables you to respond less emotionally to life and tackle problems and difficult situations much more effectively.
Projecting your consciousness allows you to perceive what other people are perceiving, thus enabling you to execute an accurate ‘Mind Probe’ and discover their true feelings. This ability is not to be misused, but can help you to see situations from other points of view and, if necessary, change the way you communicate with others.
Projecting your consciousness allows you to explore the concept of the universe and your life from a purely non-physical perspective. This almost always leads to a state of higher awareness and the development of what can only be described as increased spiritual knowledge and capabilities.
Obviously, the ability to ‘step out of yourself’ and perceive things from a vantage point other than from within your physical body is extremely beneficial. We will therefore present you with three separate techniques which, if practised regularly, will enable you to develop this ability to the full and experience the benefits personally. The first such exercise will be presented in the next part of this series…
Meet Your Astral Lover
Would you like to meet your astral lover? An Astral Lover is a being who is summoned (some would say created) on the astral plane solely for the purpose of providing companionship, romance and, if you desire, experiences of a sexual nature.
The technique that will enable you to meet your astral lover and spend time interacting with him or her is as follows:
Begin by preparing yourself physically for your meeting by doing whatever seems appropriate to get yourself in a romantic state of mind. Bathe, wear perfume (or cologne) and dress in whatever makes you feel most comfortable. You should also make the room itself more conducive to romance by dimming the lights and playing gentle music quietly in the background.
When you have done all these physical preparations, sit in a comfortable chair or recline on a couch and close your eyes. Create in your mind an ideal romantic setting. For some this might be a high class restaurant. For others it might be a large suite in a luxurious hotel. Whatever setting you choose, spend some time using your creative visualization skills to imagine it in as much detail as possible, paying equal attention to sights, sounds, aromas, textures and so on.
Now mentally invite your astral lover to come and visit you. Almost immediately someone will arrive. Look at this person, at their hair, eyes, physical body and so on, and you will find that your astral lover is immensely pleasing to you. Then introduce yourself to your astral lover and spend a while getting to know each other.
From here, you should enjoy time with your lover as you see fit. Enjoy a meal, go for a walk, sit and talk over a bottle of wine or engage in whatever other activity you would like to experience. As an adult, you are quite able to decide the kind of relationship you want to establish with your astral lover, so be true to yourself and remember that this technique is for your own personal joy and benefit.
When you wish to bring the exercise to a conclusion, kiss your lover goodbye and leave the setting that you have created. Then focus your attention on your physical body in its current physical location.
Many people feel awkward when using this technique for the first time, but soon the relationship which a person builds with their astral lover becomes almost as meaningful as any they might enjoy with a physical being. Often, the bonds between the individual and the astral lover become so strong that the lover will visit them in their dreams without invitation. When this happens the relationship progresses to an even deeper and more meaningful level.

Astral Projection Part 6
No matter which of the two astral projection techniques you decide to use, there are often some ‘signs’ of imminent projection which you should be aware of. When any of these signs take place, be encouraged that your practice is bearing fruit. Continue your regular practice and projecting your consciousness successfully out of your body is just a matter of time.
The first sign are so-called ‘vibrations’. These are very difficult to describe, but generally make your body feel as though it is tingling with energy. Often these vibrations increase to the point where you may feel that your consciousness is being ‘flip-flopped’ inside your body – as though your consciousness is at the centre of a powerful whirlpool. These signs are not dangerous, and can actually be used to help you increase your projection efforts. In short, if and when they occur, will yourself to float out of your body. This may not lead to a full projection, but in many cases it does.
Another common sign is when you hear a sudden, loud noise during the exercise. At first you will want to open your eyes to see what is happening, but in almost all cases nothing physically is happening at all. It is simply a sound which is perceived astrally as the consciousness gets close to leaving the physical body. If you hear these noises you should therefore take heart that you are making good progress.
A third sign that you are making progress is if you suddenly regain full waking consciousness after feeling yourself ‘fall’ back onto the bed from a height. This occurs when you succeed in projecting your astral body a few feet outside the physical, but then something (usually an unconscious fear) causes you to ‘snap back’ into your familiar physical shell. Again, be encouraged if this happens for it means that you are projecting. All you have to do now is try and remain conscious as you do so.
Exploring Non-Physicality
Eventually, if you follow the techniques and advice given, you will succeed in projecting your consciousness into the non-physical planes. When this happens, you are free to explore this new territory as you wish. I do, however, have some recommendations for your early projection exercises:
First of all, spend a few sessions getting used to and enjoying the realm of non-physicality. Enjoy floating around your environment. Maybe do a somersault or two. In short, enjoy your new-found freedom from the restraining laws of the physical universe.
Next, spend a few sessions experimenting with the way your thoughts affect the plane you find yourself in. Can you deliberately change your environment or even yourself? If so, how? How might your methods be applied to your normal physical reality, if at all?
A third suggestion is to look for any other signs of intelligence on the non-physical plane. Are there other entities here? Can you communicate with them? What do these intelligent beings have to say?
From here, you are on your own. Explore the realms you have entered with a real sense of adventure, and when you return to full waking consciousness, try and record what you experienced. By doing this you will be helping to chart what is largely unexplored territory as far as the majority of people are concerned. At the same time, you will be recording your first steps of an adventure which in all probability will change your life and the way you see it for the rest of your days.
Happy travels!
Astral Projection Part 5
The second astral projection technique is known as the visualization technique. This technique is provided for those of you who can visualize to any extent, and is often a preferred method of projecting for anyone who thinks primarily in terms of pictures rather than sensations.
The Visualization Technique
As with the previous technique, begin by making yourself comfortable in bed. Make sure that you are warm and that your clothing is loose, then close your eyes. Spend a good two or three minutes just concentrating on your breathing and allowing your body to relax. Before very long you will find your mind becoming quiet and at the same time you will be receiving fewer impressions from your physical body. In other words, your arms and legs and torso will begin to fall asleep.
When you have achieved this state of total relaxation, imagine that you can see through your closed eyes. Imagine the ceiling above your physical body as clearly as possible. Spend several minutes doing this if necessary.
Once you can visualise the ceiling, imagine that your astral body (consciousness) begins to float out of your physical body towards the ceiling. See the ceiling coming closer as you rise up out of your body. Feel the sensation of weightlessness this brings about.
Float by the ceiling for a couple of minutes, then imagine yourself rolling over in the air and looking down at your physical body. Really visualise you seeing yourself and your environment from outside your body. Explore the room that your body is sleeping in, making sure that your visualisation is as clear and vivid as possible.
When you do this regularly, your consciousness will eventually “click” out of the physical and you will not need to visualise. Instead, you will be able to perceive your environment quite naturally as a floating point of consciousness. At this point you can consider yourself to has projected successfully and can begin to explore as you wish.
