Create Your Future Internally
In my last post I explained that the first step to creating the life of your dreams was to design your future. If you have done that you are ready to proceed to the next step, which is to create your future internally. This involves using a couple of techniques to bring you to the point where you completely believe that your future success has already been achieved on an internal level.
The first technique I recommend, and one that will be very familiar to anyone who is familiar with the Law of Attraction, is visualization. Visualizing is traditionally defined as ‘to imagine in pictures’, but getting the feeling of having accomplished something is just as important as imagining scenes of accomplishment, so don’t get too hung up on the visual side of things. Instead, concentrate on developing a feeling that the future you have created has already come to pass on an inner level.
To do this, close your eyes and allow yourself to ‘make believe’ that the future you have designed has magically come true. Imagine that you have the physique of your dreams, that your bank balance is as high as you ever wanted it to be, that you already live in your ideal home, and so on. Spend several minutes doing this and make sure that you enjoy every second, then make sure that you repeat the exercise at least three times each day. View it as ‘visiting your creation in advance’.
Astute readers will note that I asked you to ‘make believe’ rather than fantasize. That’s because what you are doing here is literally making a new belief about your reality, and when your belief is formed the magic of believing comes into play to speed up the manifestation process.
The second technique that you should use to create your future internally is affirmation, which involves saying positive statements with as much conviction and belief as possible. I suggest that you use the statements that you wrote down in Step 3 of the Design Your Future exercise and that you get into the habit of speak them out loud several times a day. Also speak them quietly to yourself when you find yourself with nothing particular to do, such as when queuing in a store or waiting for a friend.
Concentrate on using these two techniques of visualization and affirmation on a daily basis and always aim to develop the emotional feeling of having rather than wanting. By making the belief that you already have what you want, you effectively create your future internally and put yourself in a great position for the third and final phase, which I will discuss next time.
Design Your Future
Until you design your future, you will never be able to take control and create it as you want it to be. Whilst many people allow their lives to unfold according to chance, the end result of such an approach is rarely impressive, and leads to a state of mediocrity at best. Just as a garden that is not maintained will eventually become overgrown with weeds, so a life that has not been deliberately designed will eventually become a pale shadow of what it could have been.
Clearly, if you want to live life to the full, you need to stop being a passenger and choose to jump into the driving seat instead. Designing your future isn’t particularly difficult, and once you have done it you will be able to quickly move on and start creating it just as you have designed. That said, here’s how to design your future…
Step 1 – Define Your Life
First, take a pad and pencil and write down six headings: Health & Fitness, Career, Finances, Relationships, Tangibles and Personal Development. If you wish to rename these headings or add/remove one or two, feel free to do so (for example, a retired person might not feel the need for a Career heading).
Step 2 – Imagine the Possibilities
Next, look at each heading in turn and decide what you want the area of your life to be like in the future. Don’t worry about what you currently think is possible or about how something might be achieved, simply identify what you want. For example, under the Personal Development heading you might want to have learned to speak a second language, and under the Tangibles heading you might want to be the proud owner of a particular sports car.
Step 3 – Write it Down
When you have decided on something, write down a brief description of what you want under the appropriate heading. Write in the present tense as if the future vision is already a reality. For example, under Personal Development you might write, “I can communicate fluently in Japanese.” And under the Health & Fitness heading you might write “I have a sleek, toned physique that makes me feel as good as I look.”
You should spend as much time as you want on this process of designing your future and have fun with it. However, do take it seriously, because when you follow through with the next few steps that I will present in my next two posts, the future you design will be transformed into an actual reality. So design something special!
How to Predict the Future
If you want to know how to predict the future then you’re in luck, because I can tell you. The most reliable way of predicting the future doesn’t involve crystal balls, tarot cards, tea leaves or any other kind of fortune-telling paraphernalia. That’s because the best way to predict the future is to create it.
Most people allow the future to unfold all by itself, and as a result they find themselves being led by the circumstances of life. If their employer offers them a promotion they take it and move up the career ladder. If he doesn’t then they stay exactly where they are. If the fashion world decides that the colour of the season is green then they end up wearing green for a few months. And if the colour is blue they wear blue. In other words, most people allow life to boss them around.
Allowing life to boss you around makes your future very unpredictable, because you have no idea what’s coming next. This can make you feel insecure, anxious and literally clueless about where you will be one, five or ten years down the line. Some people might say that they are quite happy to ‘go wherever life leads them’ but to me that kind of approach is a complete waste of conscious intelligence and makes it very difficult for anyone to live life to the full.
If you want to predict the future with a much greater degree of certainty, and trade anxiety and insecurity for confidence, you need to start creating your future instead of just waiting for it to happen. This involves deciding exactly what you want to experience and achieve in your life, establishing the desired outcome in your mind as if it were already a reality, and then taking the actions that are required to shift your creation in the mental universe into the physical universe.
Over the next few posts I will discuss each of these elements so that you are in no doubt about how to proceed. This will allow you to start creating your future as you want it to be – something that makes predicting the future easier than you ever thought possible!
Write Your Own Reality!
Reality is governed by your thoughts, and it may help your understanding if we describe reality as a loop. The loop begins with the thoughts you think from moment to moment. These thoughts become beliefs about yourself and your capabilities. These beliefs either empower you to accomplish your dreams or they hold you back from accomplishment. Finally, reality is produced by your beliefs and this feeds more thoughts and the loop begins again.
Thus a person who thinks about poverty will come to believe that he is destined to live a life of poverty. This belief will lead him to behave and act as though he is destined to live a life of poverty. Reality, being nothing more than a sum total of beliefs, will be one of poverty. And the person living in this loop will look at his reality and continue thinking about how poor he is…
Reality can be changed simply by changing the loop. Instead of thinking about poverty, one could begin thinking about prosperity. This will lead to him believing in his abundance, and then to act abundantly and experience this new abundant reality.
We have already seen how spoken affirmations can be very useful in programming the mind and helping to change the thoughts (and thus the reality) of an individual. What we now want to introduce is the idea of “Writing Your Own Reality” by forming the habit of making written as well as spoken affirmations.
If you look back at your school days, you will no doubt recall that on occasion a mischievous pupil was “punished” by being told to write a few hundred lines. A boy who constantly played games in the classroom might have had to write, “I should be studious in class and focus on the task in hand” several hundred times.
Such “lines” were given to pupils in order to harness the power of written affirmations. By writing a line over and over again, the pupil would, effectively, be re-programming his mind and thus his behaviour would soon follow suit in a new, more desirable pattern.
As people who are travelling towards total empowerment, we can take this principle and use it to write our own realities. We can make any changes we want to our beliefs simply by giving ourselves some “lines” to write each day until our beliefs, and thus our lives, respond in the way we want them too.
For example, if you want to experience more self-confidence in your life, you could assign yourself the following line:
“I am confident and strong – nothing shakes my confidence.”
If you were to write that line one hundred times each morning before going about your daily business, after just a few days you would notice a great increase in your self-confidence. If you really want even faster results, you could simply double the number of lines you write.
Writing your own reality is amazingly powerful. It is even more powerful if you create the emotion of the lines as you write them.
For example, if you are writing, “I am confident and strong – nothing shakes my confidence” then you should imagine how you will feel when you are confident and strong. Imagine yourself living life in a strong and confident manner. Imagine being so confident that nothing shakes you. Imagine being the master of your circumstances rather than having your circumstances master you.
The formula for writing your own reality is therefore as follows:
• Decide what affirmation you want to make real in your life.
• Decide how many lines you will write each day.
• Write this number of lines at the beginning of each day until your affirmation becomes a reality.
• Feel the emotion of your written affirmation as your write your lines.
This really is a magical formula which can bring astounding results in a matter of weeks – if not days! I recommend that if your writing ability is normal, you begin writing at least one hundred lines each day.
You can make up your own written affirmations or choose from the selection I have provided below to get you started. Either way, you should begin today. Write your own reality!
