Do not eat for at least an hour before any regression session. Digestion consumes a great deal of energy and so it is best to stick to fruit juices and other liquids prior to using the techniques in this series.
If you want to get the most out of a regression exercise you should choose a question or theme which you would like more insight into. For example, the question, ‘Why do I always seem to have a problem regarding my finances?’ will lead you to the answer. Similarly, the theme of ‘Love’ will lead you to an inner experience which will help give you more insight into love and how it affects your life.
Because questions and themes can be so productive, I suggest that you pick one question or theme every time you follow the techniques given in this Explore Your Past Lives series.
Before you can even begin to explore your previous existences, you need to be able to relax both your body and your mind. The actual past life regression exercise will enable you to access the information locked in your subconscious mind, but in order for this to happen your whole being must be in a state of total relaxation.
Begin by relaxing your physical body. Lie down on your back and close your eyes. Focus your attention on each part of your body, from the soles of your feet to the crown of your head. Tell each body-part to RELAX and actually feel the muscles relaxing.
When your whole physical body is relaxed, it is time to quieten the conscious mind and get into an Alpha State of consciousness. This is a perfectly natural state of mind and can be described as ‘relaxed awareness’. It is not an unnatural trance of any kind and there is never any need to worry about entering Alpha.
To enter Alpha, concentrate on your breathing. Focus your attention at the nostrils and simply ‘watch the breaths’ coming in and going out. As you breathe in, silently count ‘one’. As you breathe out, silently count ‘two’. Then start again with the next inhalation.
After doing this for a short while you will find that your mind becomes perfectly relaxed. You will still be aware, but the busy thoughts of daily life will have quietened down and you will feel as though you have more ‘room’ in your head to think. At this stage it is time to proceed straight onto the recollection exercise, which will be the topic of my next article.
