Create an Inner Temple

An inner temple (also referred to as an inner sanctuary) is an environment built in your imagination for the purpose of spiritual retreat and work. It does not have to be a ‘temple building’ as such, but it can be any place where you will feel relaxed, at peace and able to focus your energy on a regular basis. Here are some inner environments which are commonly used for temple work:

- A log cabin situated next to a babbling mountain brook. Here the sky is clear blue, the mountains green and the air fresh and invigorating. Inside, the cabin is simply furnished with an open fire, a comfortable chair, and any other items you find necessary to make this inner temple appealing.

- A stretch of coastline, unmarred by human construction. Your temple in this case is not confined to a building. Instead, your spiritual work and play is enjoyed on the sandy beach as you watch the surf of the clear blue ocean lap back and forth.

- A ‘Garden of Eden’, with all manner of exotic plants and wildlife helping to surround you with the beauty of nature. In this kind of inner temple, there is often an open glade area where you can sit and carry out your energy work.

There are many other kinds of inner temples which you can choose to build, but the three examples that I have just provided should illustrate that your temple doesn’t have to be a building in the conventional sense. With that fact established, you should now start creating your inner temple – your personal oasis of spiritual peace, power and enjoyment. To do this, simply follow the guidelines below:

- Go to a place which is quiet and where you will be free from distractions for at least half an hour.

- Sit or lay in a comfortable position, close your eyes and spend a few minutes relaxing your body.

- When you feel totally relaxed, imagine your inner temple as clearly as you can. For example, if your temple is to be a log cabin in the mountains, see the cabin from the outside. Look at the scenery around you. Breath in the fresh, crisp air. Hear the babbling brook nearby.

- Now enter your temple and look around. Notice the flickering fireplace. Sit down in the comfortable chair in your temple space and simply enjoy being in this new place.

- Now affirm: ‘This is my inner temple. This is my personal oasis where I can come and be at peace with myself and the universe. This is where I can focus my spiritual energy for the benefit of my ongoing evolvement as a spiritual being.’

- When you feel that you have spent long enough in your temple, decide to return to normal waking consciousness and open your eyes.

Repeat this simple exercise every day for a week or two and your inner temple will soon begin to feel very real. This is because it is real as far as the inner plane of reality is concerned. You have built a personal oasis in your imagination – an oasis you should feel able to retreat to whenever you wish for the purpose of carrying out spiritual work or simply relaxing and enjoying the environment.

Prosperity Consciousness

Prosperity consciousness is something that anyone who wants to experience greater levels of wealth and abundance must learn to develop. A prosperity consciousness is a mental, emotional and spiritual attitude to money that includes the following aspects:

A belief that we live in a genuinely abundant universe and that there is more than enough to enable all human beings to live lives of plenty and prosperity. Getting rich doesn’t mean that anyone else has to get poor in the process – instead we can all get rich and enjoy the abundance that is available to us.

An appreciation for the wealth and abundance that we already have in our lives. Many people don’t pause to notice how wealthy they really are, and that ignorance effectively prevents them from receiving even more.

A sense of trust in the benevolence of the universe, and a sense of knowing that we can have whatever we need to live our lives to the full and to help others do the same.

It could be said that we are all born with a prosperity consciousness and that we are conditioned to lose that attitude as we grow older. Consider how many children think that money is no big deal and act as if there is an endless supply of the stuff. That’s a prosperity consciousness, but adults are quick to ‘teach’ those children that money is a much rarer commodity than they think. In fact, we teach children to develop the opposite of a prosperity consciousness – we teach them to have a scarcity consciousness and to treat money as if it were most difficult thing in the world to obtain.

Although it is important to teach children to respect the value of money and the work and productivity that goes into creating wealth on a financial level, we certainly shouldn’t encourage scarcity thinking. Human beings achieve in life only as much as they believe they are able to achieve, so limiting the way that our children think effectively limits what they will be able to experience in life.

Developing a prosperity consciousness is not something that requires us to ‘add’ to our adult understanding, but only that we go back to how we originally viewed things as children. We need to go back to the point where we could look at the natural world and appreciate the wealth of space that is available to us for exploration and fun. We need to look at the wealth of opportunities that there are to provide a myriad of products and services to our fellow human beings. Then we need to dare to dream big dreams, make big plans and proceed with the faith that we will achieve all the things that we want to achieve.

Create Your Future Externally

Some Law of Attraction teachers say that all you have to do to create good things in your life is imagine good things happening and wait for the universe to deliver. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work quite like that, and it is also necessary to take physical actions to make the manifestation of your desires possible.

Just as you can only receive a telephone call by taking the action of picking up the phone when it rings, so you can only experience the manifestation of your desires by taking the actions that make such receiving possible. If you simply sit back and do nothing, then that’s exactly what you will get.

The good news is that the Law of Attraction often makes physical actions a lot more effective than it ever would be if you had not first created your future internally as described in the previous post. When you create your future in the way that I have been explaining, you can expect all sorts of coincidences to show up in your life that help you to manifest your desires faster and easier than you might currently think possible. So what kind of actions should you start taking?

I think it is a good idea to borrow the philosophy of many spiritual thinkers throughout history in this respect. ‘Pray as if it all depends on God,’ they said, ‘and act as if it all depends on you.’ In other words, you should simply take whatever actions would be necessary to achieve the goal even if the Law of Attraction didn’t exist.

If you want to lose weight, start eating more sensibly and get regular exercise. If you want to get a promotion at work, focus on being more productive and enthusiastic about your job. And if you want more wealth in your life, start looking for ways in which you can increase your income – perhaps by investing in training materials or even in personal development materials that will help you develop a more abundant state of mind.

Don’t think of these actions as being anything negative because they aren’t. Think of them as your way of showing the universe that you are serious about what you want and that you are going to use every resource available to bring it into your life. When you do this you are effectively participating in a process of ‘active receiving’ and your efforts will not be wasted.

At this point we can summarise the Create Your Future process quite simply:

• Design Your Future by deciding what you really want.

• Create Your Future Internally with visualization and affirmations.

• Create Your Future Externally by taking action toward your goals.

Apply this process in your life and the Law of Attraction will do the rest.

Create Your Future Internally

In my last post I explained that the first step to creating the life of your dreams was to design your future. If you have done that you are ready to proceed to the next step, which is to create your future internally. This involves using a couple of techniques to bring you to the point where you completely believe that your future success has already been achieved on an internal level.

The first technique I recommend, and one that will be very familiar to anyone who is familiar with the Law of Attraction, is visualization. Visualizing is traditionally defined as ‘to imagine in pictures’, but getting the feeling of having accomplished something is just as important as imagining scenes of accomplishment, so don’t get too hung up on the visual side of things. Instead, concentrate on developing a feeling that the future you have created has already come to pass on an inner level.

To do this, close your eyes and allow yourself to ‘make believe’ that the future you have designed has magically come true. Imagine that you have the physique of your dreams, that your bank balance is as high as you ever wanted it to be, that you already live in your ideal home, and so on. Spend several minutes doing this and make sure that you enjoy every second, then make sure that you repeat the exercise at least three times each day. View it as ‘visiting your creation in advance’.

Astute readers will note that I asked you to ‘make believe’ rather than fantasize. That’s because what you are doing here is literally making a new belief about your reality, and when your belief is formed the magic of believing comes into play to speed up the manifestation process.

The second technique that you should use to create your future internally is affirmation, which involves saying positive statements with as much conviction and belief as possible. I suggest that you use the statements that you wrote down in Step 3 of the Design Your Future exercise and that you get into the habit of speak them out loud several times a day. Also speak them quietly to yourself when you find yourself with nothing particular to do, such as when queuing in a store or waiting for a friend.

Concentrate on using these two techniques of visualization and affirmation on a daily basis and always aim to develop the emotional feeling of having rather than wanting. By making the belief that you already have what you want, you effectively create your future internally and put yourself in a great position for the third and final phase, which I will discuss next time.
