Developing Mindfulness
It has been said by many Law of Attraction teachers that being emotionally detached from your goal can actually help you to manifest it more easily (normally because detachment removes the energy of ‘neediness’). Unfortunately, few teachers discuss how to achieve such a level of detachment, so today we will present you with one of the most effective techniques that we know of, and that technique is mindfulness.
Those of you who have studied certain types of meditation may already be familiar with mindfulness, but for the benefit of those of you who haven’t, we can define mindfulness as a state in which your mind is completely focused on the experience of the present moment. You aren’t dreaming about the future or remembering the past, you are simply focused on whatever is happening at the time.
If you practice mindfulness when you are mowing the lawn then you will be focused on the mowing of the lawn – on the smell of the freshly cut grass, on the sound that the lawnmower makes as you work and on the feeling you get in your arms and chest as you steer the machine. Similarly, if you practice mindfulness when you are sitting in traffic then you will notice the feeling of the steering wheel in your hands, the sound of the vehicles around you and the expressions on the faces of the people in those vehicles.
When you practice mindfulness, all stress and anxiety about the past or future naturally disappears because you won’t be thinking about past or future. In fact you won’t really be thinking much at all in an analytical sense – you will simply be observing things exactly as they are at the present moment.
Practicing mindfulness for a moment isn’t difficult, so try it right now. Stop reading this text when you reach the end of this paragraph and focus on how you are in relation to your immediate environment. Notice the sounds that you hear, even if it is only the sound of your own breathing. Notice the feelings in your physical body. Notice what the air smells like and the temperature of the room. Notice the texture of the things that your eyes fall upon. Don’t think about anything or analyse anything, simply notice how things are and accept them exactly as they are without judging. Spend as long as you like doing this and when you are ready to do so, come back for the rest of this article.
Most people who try this mindfulness exercise for the first time are amazed at how rich the present moment is in terms of sensory detail which we don’t usually notice. Most people are also impressed with the way they are able to quieten the chattering of their minds and let go of thoughts about the past and the future.
That was just a brief taster of mindfulness, but if you work on developing a habit of mindfulness then you will find that you can develop a wonderful state of aware detachment that enriches every aspect of your life, including your work with the Law of Attraction. This is obviously something that takes time to develop to a high level, but the great thing is that the process of developing mindfulness is itself incredibly beneficial, and even a moment of mindfulness every few hours will inspire you to want to practice it more and more.
Enjoy the week ahead and be mindful!
Developing Willpower II
The first Developing Willpower exercise that we would like to present sounds extremely simple – and from a technical perspective it really is – but most people find it a lot more difficult than they first imagine. The instructions for this exercise are as follows:
Developing Willpower Exercise #1
For the next seven days, get out of bed one hour earlier than usual and spend the first thirty minutes of this time sitting in the same spot with your eyes closed and your mental focus only on your own inhalation and exhalation.
We all know that meditation is good for us, but how many people actually take the time to do it? This first exercise requires you to do just that, for the first thirty minutes of the next seven days. If you already meditate then that is good, but you must now get out of bed an hour earlier than usual to meditate. If you normally get up at 7am and meditate, you now need to get up at 6am and meditate.
The earlier time of rising is important, because it is at that time that you will most clearly witness an internal struggle between your base self, which usually wants you to do what feels good, and your Higher Self, which usually wants you to do what is right even if that thing doesn’t feel good.
Your mission here is to resist doing what feels good, and to instead do what you know you ought to do. This is a training exercise, and as such it does not require you to make a life-long commitment to getting up a whole hour earlier than usual. It only requires that you demonstrate your ability to do so for the next seven days.
Some students – especially the ‘early risers’ among you – will find this exercise relatively easy. But many more will find it very difficult. We make no apology for this. In order to raise yourself to the next level of ability you first need to face and do battle with your base self. Conquer it’s desire for sleep, or to move around the home when you should be sat with your eyes closed in meditation, and you will be surprised at how strong you suddenly feel. After seven consecutive days of such victory it seems as if your willpower has multiplied ten-fold. And in truth, that’s exactly what it has done. At that stage – after seven days of success – you may proceed to Exercise #2.
Create Your Own Power Mantras
Now that you know how to use Power Mantras you may wish to continue using one of the ready-made mantras that I presented in Using Power Mantras. However, you might also like to create your own power mantras, in which case the following information will be of use…
Creating a power mantra is actually a very simple process which can be summarised as follows:
- Know what quality or event you want to take place in your life.
- Select between one and seven words which symbolize this quality or event.
- If these words flow for you and are easy to chant then your power mantra is ready for use.
Remember that spoken words are merely verbal symbols which are used to bring a specific non-verbal image or emotion into your stream of consciousness. For example, the word, ‘cat’ consists of just three letters, but when the word is used your consciousness automatically receives a specific image or emotion which transcends those three letters. In other words, the word cat is just a symbol designed to invoke a specific reaction in your stream of consciousness.
The words of a power mantra are therefore less important than the reaction that they create within you. As long as you select words which symbolize your goal for you, and they are easy to chant, they will serve you well as a mantra of your own.
Let us imagine that you want to develop a greater sense of power in your life and that you want to feel more ‘in control’ of your circumstances. You might decide to select words such as POWER, CONTROL, INFINITE, TOTAL and so on. A suitable power mantra in this case might be, ‘INFINITE POWER, TOTAL CONTROL’.
Remember, the words themselves are unimportant. What is important is that they create in your consciousness an accurate image or feeling of what you truly want to create in your life. Keep this fact in mind and you will have no problem whatsoever in creating power mantras which work for you.
However you decide to use Power Mantras, I am confident that you will find them to be invaluable in helping you to attract whatever you want into your personal reality. But as with all methods, you first have to use them. So start right now!
Change Your Life with Power Mantras
For the benefit of new Create Good Things visitors, let me begin this series on Power Mantras by going over a few basic but nevertheless vitally important principles which form the foundation of all that I discuss here.
First of all, everything in the universe can be reduced to one basic substance – energy. The chair you sit in, the computer screen in front of you and your body itself are all different manifestations of a singular energy.
Secondly, the energy of the universe responds to thought (both conscious and subconscious). What you think on a regular, consistent basis alters the state of your own energy field and determines what conditions will be manifested in your life.
Thirdly, by using the preceding principles to deliberately alter the state of your personal energy field, you can determine for yourself what you want to be manifested in your life. In other words, you change your life greatly just by changing the quality (or vibration) of the energy that you put out into the universe.
The metaphysical theory behind these principles is sound, but theory is not enough. It
is not enough to simply tell people ‘change your thoughts and you will change your life,’ because, although this is true, we also need to address the question of, ‘How do I do that?’
There are many ways of answering this question simply because there are many ways in which one can begin to change the state of his or her own personal energy field. In this series we will focus on one of the most powerful methods I know of which is both easy to understand and simple to implement into your normal daily routine – the use of Power Mantras.
As many of you will already be aware, a mantra is a word or phrase which is repeated over and over during a period of meditation. The purpose of the mantra is two-fold:
To give the meditator something to focus on during the meditation period. Mantras dispel the need for creative visualization skills and the even more difficult ability to ‘empty the mind’.
To generate a specific state of awareness and/or to generate a specific state change in a personal energy field.
Normally, the aim of mantra meditation is to bring about a spiritual shift in consciousness and help an individual to increase their level of spiritual awareness. Whilst this is of course the highest use to which mantra meditation can be put, the technique can also be used quite legitimately for the manifestation of specific qualities or conditions in life.
Power mantras are specific words and phrases which can be used for just such a purpose. By selecting a power mantra which has been designed to change the state of your personal energy field in a certain way, you can effectively re-create your own reality from the inside out simply by using it on a regular basis.
For example, if you wish to experience a greater level of abundance in your life, you could use a power mantra which will help your personal energy field to begin to attract more and more financial success and abundance.
Or, if you wish to experience a greater level of romantic love in your life, you could use a power mantra which will help your personal energy field to begin to attract more in the way of romantic experiences.
The fact is that there is no limit to the applications to which power mantras can be put. In this series you will be given suitable power mantras for increased wealth, luck, health, and many other qualities that you might like in your life.
